Tony Canton, BA

Mental Health Counselor

Tony Canton, BA

Do you often battle with emotional numbness, impulsive habits, and rumination of past life experiences? Maybe you’ve pulled back from your relationships and find it tough to be around people after certain life events. You might avoid social situations, feel awkward in conversations, or struggle to connect with others like you used to.

Perhaps grief, loss or past trauma has hindered you from engaging in meaningful life experiences. Additionally, pressure from systemic systems and institutions—like navigating discriminatory healthcare policies or facing workplace bias—can make you feel as though you’re constantly in a never-ending crisis, trying to prove your worth or simply exist without judgment.

Having a healthy sense of self, and a better understanding of your emotions can help you feel more secure within your daily life. Regardless of your past life events, that doesn’t have to dictate how you currently live.

Meet Tony Canton, MA,

Psychotherapy extern

I am a psychotherapy extern who works with people in New York City and throughout NY state. I specialize in helping individuals navigate trauma from life events, self esteem, feelings of anxiety, and experience in empathizing with the unique challenges and stressors that are commonly encountered by people of color.

My approach utilizes Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM) techniques. I’ll help you challenge limiting self-beliefs that cause a strain on daily life functions. I work with clients to build their self-esteem and learn helpful skills to better manage their emotions.

My approach to treating each client is unique, and adapted to each individual, so that you can:

  • Explore automatic survival responses, and how they distort your self-perception

  • Nurture unhealed emotional pain from past trauma

  • Establish boundaries that respect your needs and limitations

  • Improve your emotional regulation skills by improving mindfulness skills

  • Change limiting beliefs leading to insight and problem solving strategies.

When we allow ourselves to address the pain in our past, we allow ourselves the chance to grow. My wish is that my clients come to understand the inner strength that already lies within them.

I encourage you to reach out today for a complimentary 30-minute phone consult so we can get to know each other.
